Collections
General Collection
The Miller F. Whittaker Library collection consists of general and specific reference books, periodicals, newspapers, government documents, pamphlets, masters' theses, dissertations, telephone directories, college catalogs, indexes, and microforms.
Federal Documents
The library is a partial depository for a select group of federal documents distributed by the Government Printing Office.
State Documents
As a sub-depository for state publications, the library receives publications from various state agencies such as the State Department of Education, the Department of Social Services, the Employment Security Commission, and the State Budget and Control.
Special Collections
The SCSU Historical Collection consists of materials relating to alumni and other associates of the school. Materials include annual reports, minutes, correspondences, speeches, brochures, campus publications, books, theses and dissertations written by students and faculty, handbooks, newspapers, college clippings, programs, oral history tapes, and specialized artifacts. These materials cannot be taken from the area. The collection may used Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by special appointment. For more information call (803)536-8627/8628.

Atlanta University Black Culture Collection
This collection consists of selected items on microfilm from the Henry P. Slaughter Collection which Atlanta University acquired in 1956. The collection includes books, pamphlets, portraits, and letters by and about the black man in Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

African American Dissertations
The library has a selected list of doctoral dissertations on the Negro from 1933-1980s. This collection is arranged in seven major categories covering every aspect of study relating to the Negro in the United States. It also includes dissertations which deal primarily with the
problem(s) or race, as well as those in which race is a variable and not the focus of research.
The Schomburg Collection is a library and archive of materials devoted to Negro life and history. The library has a partial collection of materials described in the catalog on microfilm of African American authors and about people of African descent from 1905-early 1960s.
Microforms
The Miller F. Whittaker Library has over 1,028,132 microforms. They include ERIC documents, government documents, NewsBank, Black dissertations, Atlanta University Historical Collection, college catalogs, journals, magazines, and newspapers.
